Quick Tips To Consider When Starting A Blog

This is just a quick collection of tips to keep in mind when starting a blog for the first time. I hope people will find this post useful when creating their first blog and please don't feel shy about commenting if you feel like I left something out or am wrong about something.

Pick a subject you can write about and not lose interest in. You don't want to run out of gas after the first 10-20 posts, also do research on your competitors. If it seems like there isn't much competition but enough of a demand to make it worth writing about then you have found yourself some e-gold.

Don't build too many links to your blog until you have enough content to make it worth reading. (Show a few people and get some feedback before a real launch!) 

Keep your unique content unique! Don't repost your articles, instead post original and unique summaries with your backlink being a targeted keyword or keyphrase. Google rewards unique content and punishes reposted content.

Nofollow everyone, everywhere. If you know what this means then you might disagree but this is how I rank my blogs pages when I create a new blog. It's not a must but I think it helps alot. You can always install commentLuv or other dofollow plugins later on.

Consider using a free skin or theme until you made enough money to cover a custom one. There is no need to spend money you haven't earned yet.

Don't lose hope! Unless you create the next Facebook or Google you will not be an instant millionaire but instead you will start to generate more and more income over time. It took over 6 months to get one of my blogs to 4,000 daily pageviews with top 10 search results on Google with a very competitive subject and very very good domain name. (There is money in blogging it just takes time and effort like any other job.)

Don't put advertisements on blogs that have just started, a-lot of people are turned off by that kind of thing and chances are even with perfect ad placement your going to make less than 50 cents a day starting out anyway. Your focus when starting a blog should be keeping visitors on your blog not sending them away for a few cents to a dollar.
